been editing a project shot last year and it’s been so much fun

art can be fun

It’s a whole lot of fun when you’re not tryna make her cum

this project was written off by its director and until now I was too busy to give a shit about it

there were critiques of me on the set of this project which were true within context

how i positioned the camera how strong, powerful, beautiful I make my subjects and particularly how I don’t

the only issue with these critiques is I was not the director of the project and I genuinely did not want to be but I was forced into the role

and at this point in my life, I had hope that things would just go the right way that someone would step up

no.

so a reluctant producer
became a cinematographer

• the real cinematographer dropped out very late stage because they cared more about NOT us

and that reluctant producer-cinematograper was roped into directing too

• the director couldnt direct because the “guaranteed” actor dropped out

concisely, I became producer-co-director-cinematographer-editor

on-set we crowdsourced input and ideas, which was nice a really strong, nice, and competent team all round

very rare now that I look back on it

so, as always, here we are reluctantly finishing what i started

what’s funny is this was the largest costume and makeup department I’ve ever worked with Funnier because I was fighting for my life trying to hide the shoddy production design with cinematographic technique. It had no one backing it.

a total of 7 people doing hair makeup picking clothes buying clothes taking days off to think about clothes hairstyles like nails and feet, and all the while not being paid for something that wouldn’t come out, a full year after we shot it, if I didn’t decide I wanted to revisit this project for the fun of it

this is very common in movies, film - this entire industry - by the way

I’m grateful for the critiques Even at the time I was grateful, even if it was after the shoot from a director who could have given those instructions at a time that allowed us to implement the ideas, and plan for them, but didn’t, And also didn’t direct

and I saw all this coming too as well to be honest

but I’ve also acted and directed and juggled multiple roles multiple times simultaneously with none of the luxuries we had that day so the excuses are personal

the thing is everytime a friend has said “that was shit” it’s made me rethink, and improve my writing prose improved considerably because tmmrwseoul李沄 passed judgement upon me and every movie ive ever made has gotten twice as good because someone told me it was poo!

in the edit looking at the footage, the performance lacks intensity, so it does NOT match the music hes far too relaxed

this is the issue of having no single person step forward to take responsibility for a role

I would have spotted and fixed but I do remember now that I, the cinematographer, also really objected to the idea of performance shots “just in case” so I was reluctantly doing it

which is always an issue

I’m fixing that all now in the edit With small additional shoots on top lol

this was one of those projects where I had to drag the director to make every decision from pre to post

now this director-not-director ultimately was always conflicted about directing which I’m everyday also in such a situation as we all have been so it’s not surprise he’s no director anymore and that’s fine it makes sense now I’m also not a director don’t judge us

• Critiques spurred a lot of thought on the face, beauty, stature, and controlling the perception of a character

I’ve long felt that an actor is at the whim of the director their toy so I’ve never worried about best angles
just what I need to get the job done

but then I’ve also never had the luxury of stylists makeup costume and so on Real poverty shit I know

but through this I started to understand kpop artists for example pop artists how every detail is controlled to project the most intentional idea of them
